We visited ancient burial cairns yesterday and saw a massive viaduct nearby. The cairns are burial sites from 3,000 to 4,000 years ago. The entryway faced sunrise on winter solstice. Based on the amount of daylight I'm experiencing around summer solstice, I can imagine how the early people would have celebrated the turning from long nights toward longer days.
